Be cunning, play brilliant, and discover how to play craps the ideal way!
Dice and dice games goes back to the Crusades, but current craps is only about 100 years old. Current craps developed from the 12th Century Anglo game referred to as Hazard. No one knows for sure the origin of the game, although Hazard is believed to have been invented by the Anglo, Sir William of Tyre, around the 12th century. It’s believed that Sir William’s paladins gambled on Hazard during a siege on the castle Hazarth in 1125 AD. The name Hazard was gotten from the citadel’s name.
Early French colonizers brought the game Hazard to Nova Scotia. In the 1700s, when displaced by the British, the French relocated down south and located refuge in southern Louisiana where they eventually became known as Cajuns. When they left Acadia, they took their preferred game, Hazard, with them. The Cajuns streamlined the game and made it mathematically fair. It is said that the Cajuns altered the name to craps, which is derived from the name of the losing toss of snake-eyes in the game of Hazard, recognized as "crabs."
From Louisiana, the game migrated to the Mississippi scows and throughout the nation. A great many think the dice builder John H. Winn as the creator of modern craps. In 1907, Winn created the current craps layout. He put in place the Don’t Pass line so players could wager on the dice to not win. At another time, he created the boxes for Place bets and added the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
