Learn to Play Craps – Tricks and Techniques: The Past of Craps
Be cunning, play clever, and become versed in craps the right way!
Dice and dice games goes back to the Crusades, but current craps is only about a century old. Current craps developed from the ancient Anglo game called Hazard. No one knows for certain the origin of the game, but Hazard is believed to have been created by the Anglo, Sir William of Tyre, around the twelfth century. It’s supposed that Sir William’s knights enjoyed Hazard through a blockade on the castle Hazarth in 1125 AD. The title Hazard was gotten from the fortress’s name.
Early French colonizers brought the game Hazard to Nova Scotia. In the 18th century, when displaced by the British, the French moved south and discovered refuge in the south of Louisiana where they after a while became known as Cajuns. When they fled Acadia, they took their preferred game, Hazard, along. The Cajuns simplified the game and made it more mathematically fair. It’s said that the Cajuns changed the name to craps, which is acquired from the name of the losing throw of two in the game of Hazard, referred to as "crabs."
From Louisiana, the game moved to the Mississippi scows and throughout the nation. A great many think the dice maker John H. Winn as the father of current craps. In the early 1900s, Winn assembled the modern craps layout. He appended the Don’t Pass line so players could bet on the dice to lose. At another time, he created the spaces for Place bets and added the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
