Be smart, play smart, and pickup craps the ideal way!

Games that use dice and the dice themselves date back to the Middle Eastern Crusades, but current craps is just about one hundred years old. Current craps formed from the ancient Anglo game referred to as Hazard. No one absolutely knows the birth of the game, but Hazard is said to have been invented by the Englishman, Sir William of Tyre, sometime in the twelfth century. It’s supposed that Sir William’s soldiers wagered on Hazard amid a siege on the fortification Hazarth in 1125 AD. The title Hazard was derived from the citadel’s name.

Early French colonizers imported the game Hazard to Acadia. In the 18th century, when exiled by the British, the French relocated south and located safety in southern Louisiana where they at a later time became Cajuns. When they departed Acadia, they took their preferred game, Hazard, with them. The Cajuns broke down the game and made it fair mathematically. It is believed that the Cajuns changed the name to craps, which is acquired from the term for the bad luck throw of 2 in the game of Hazard, referred to as "crabs."

From Louisiana, the game extended to the Mississippi river boats and across the country. Most think the dice builder John H. Winn as the father of current craps. In 1907, Winn created the modern craps layout. He appended the Don’t Pass line so gamblers could wager on the dice to not win. Later, he invented the boxes for Place bets and put in place the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
