Be a Master of Craps – Pointers and Tactics: The Past of Craps
Be clever, play brilliant, and learn how to play craps the proper way!
Games that use dice and the dice themselves date all the way back to the Middle Eastern Crusades, but current craps is only about one hundred years old. Modern craps come about from the 12th Century Anglo game called Hazard. No one knows for sure the birth of the game, but Hazard is said to have been created by the Anglo, Sir William of Tyre, around the 12th century. It’s theorized that Sir William’s paladins bet on Hazard amid a blockade on the castle Hazarth in 1125 AD. The name Hazard was gotten from the fortification’s name.
Early French settlers imported the game Hazard to Nova Scotia. In the 1700s, when exiled by the English, the French moved south and discovered refuge in the south of Louisiana where they a while later became Cajuns. When they fled Acadia, they brought their preferred game, Hazard, along. The Cajuns streamlined the game and made it mathematically fair. It’s said that the Cajuns altered the name to craps, which is gotten from the term for the non-winning toss of two in the game of Hazard, referred to as "crabs."
From Louisiana, the game migrated to the Mississippi scows and all over the nation. A good many consider the dice maker John H. Winn as the founder of modern craps. In 1907, Winn developed the current craps setup. He added the Don’t Pass line so players could bet on the dice to lose. Afterwords, he created the boxes for Place bets and added the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
